Bovine hide collagen, more commonly known as cow hide, is the natural, untouched skin and hair of a cow.
It is a byproduct of the bovine industry, and is typically available after the rest of the cow has been allocated for its use.
Bovine hide collagen is known to be safe for consumption.
The skin is taken and put through a manufacturing process where the collagen is extracted.
This extraction process will then give you :
- Gelatin
- Hydrolysed collagen
As gelatin is mainly used for gelling things together e.g. in desserts, many people go for hydrolysed collagen which is collagen that is available in tablet or powder form making it easier to consume.
This form collagen has shorter chains of amino acids making it more easily absorbed into the body.
Bovine collagen can also be extracted from bones and tendons.
